While attending Berklee School of Music, Alex performed as an accompanist to several gospel groups. After moving to New York, he spent four years working as a session musician, backing urban and jazz performers such as Patti Austin, Freddie Jackson, James Ingram, and Keith Sweat. Bugnon released his debut album, Love Season, in 1989.
